NeNeMas - the education arm of drama box

NeNeMas

NeNeMas, an acronym for NEver NEglect MAnkind, is the Education arm of Drama Box. NeNeMas' vision is to make education a humanistic experience by using theatre.

NeNeMas was conceptualised by Drama Box's Artistic Director Kok Heng Leun and formed in 2004 to be the Education arm of Drama Box, focusing on Education for Community.

NeNeMas' works include interactive plays for schools as well as workshops specially-tailored for students, teachers and corporate clients using our unique methodology.

Within a short 6-month period in 2004, NeNeMas has reached more than 5000 students and 400 teachers through our plays and workshops.

Riding on more than a decade of experience in theatre and the strength of its three founding members (Kok Heng Leun, Koh Hui Ling & Evelyn Chia), NeNeMas aims to use our participant-centered methodology to empower students, so that they can make a difference in their own lives and also positively affect others.

methodology

We bring together the benefits of a systematic approach when implementing NeNeMas' participant-centered methodology. Themes related to participants can be explored using techniques, which include Theatre of the Oppressed, Theatre Games, Image Theatre, Cops In The Head, Rainbows of Desire and Alexander Technique. We emphasise on experiential learning - self-motivated exploration and paying forward to the community.

These unique experiential programmes aim to equip our participants with important social skills & practical knowledge, while developing creative & critical thinking skills. They will learn how an individual can affect the larger society and thus realise the importance of being a pro-active and responsible citizen in their school and society.

Our workshops and theatre are informed by a strong pedagogy of eliminating monologues in the process of learning. We encourage students to engage in creative dialogues and discussions because we believe students want to learn and they want to share.
