Calling all theatre practitioners, educators, community workers or anyone who:

  • wants to be part of Drama Box’s inaugural Community Theatre Festival
  • Apply Theatre or Forum Theatre techniques to your work in communities

Module 1: Understanding Theatre
  • Language of Theatre
  • Theatre / Dramatic Elements
  • Forms of Community Theatre
  • Devising / Improvisation
Module 2: Working in Communities
  • Sharing of Community Theatre / Arts practices overseas
  • How to work in / with communities from a Community / Social Worker’s perspective
  • Adapting to local context & the community of their choice
Module 3: Breaking The Silence (Level 1 & 2)

Level 1
  • Introduction to Theatre Games & Image Theatre as part of the Arsenal of "Theatre of the Oppressed"
  • Learn the dramaturgy of a Forum Theatre
  • Devise an "anti-model"
  • Experience a Forum Theatre Session

Level 2
  • Further exploration into Theatre Games & Image Theatre
  • Learn how to direct & rehearse a Forum Theatre presentation
  • Integration of Pedagogy of the Oppressed into Forum Theatre
  • Introduction to "Jokering" and Actor-Facilitation

Consultation & Mentorship

After attending the training, participants will propose a Forum Theatre/Community Theatre project they would like to present during the festival. From these proposals, 3 to 5 projects will be selected to be developed for showcase during the festival.
