As part of Drama Box’s community centred approach, we’re exploring an equitable pricing model. We hope the tiered pricing makes these workshops accessible to people with different financial means while allowing us to sustain our work and practice.
You are encouraged to choose a tier that you can comfortably contribute to, even during the early bird period.
From now - 2 October 2026- Early bird: $680
(registration may close early if we reach the maximum capacity, waitlist will be made available)
- Standard: $800
- Supporter: $920 (For those with greater financial means - helps subsidise the community tier)
- Community: $680 (For anyone in need of a subsidised rate)
- Prices include a non-refundable SGD50 admin fee.
- Refund Policy:
If you cancel at least one month before the workshop, i.e. by 24 October 2026, you can get a full refund on your course fee. If you cancel within a month of the workshop, only 50% of the course fee will be refunded. Please note that refunds exclude the SGD50 non-refundable admin fee. - SkillsFuture Credits (SFC):
This workshop is still pending SkillsFuture Credit eligibility. Once approved, all Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their SFC to pay for eligible courses. Find out more here: www.myskillsfuture.gov.sg. Please note that the non-refundable SGD50 admin fee is not SFC-eligible.
About the Workshop
Theatre of the Oppressed (TO) is a participatory approach to theatre that invites people to explore real-life experiences, questions and conflicts through play, dialogue and collective action.
Developed by Brazilian theatre practitioner Augusto Boal, TO is practised around the world by theatre and arts practitioners, educators, community workers and others interested in using theatre to engage with social issues and communities.
In this workshop, participants will be introduced to three key TO tools:
Image Theatre
Use the body to create images that express thoughts, emotions and experiences beyond words.
Forum Theatre
Explore real-life conflicts through performance, with audiences stepping into scenes to try different responses and possibilities, transforming spectators into active "spect-actors".
Theatre Games
Prepares participants to share stories and build community.
Over five days, participants will:
- Get introduced to Theatre Games and Image Theatre
- Understand key ideas from the Pedagogy of the Oppressed
- Learn how a Forum Theatre play is structured
- Create an "anti-model" or a short play that presents a situation of oppression without offering a neat or predetermined solution
- Experience a Forum Theatre session
