Work In Progress is an artistic exploration and response to questions surrounding the role of work in our society.
“Work”, which in modern society is understood more commonly as the occupation, role or profession we are in, is a dominant part of our lives. In Singapore society, “work” carries political, economical, social and cultural significance - it is talked about as one of the pillars for the nation’s economic progress and prosperity; housing, healthcare, education and social life are predominantly organised to ensure people maintain continuous “work” and “employment”.
Over time, as society evolved, the types of work and the ways we work have changed and will continue to do so. While the topic of “work” is heavily discussed in policy making by politicians and subject experts, it is seldom featured in public discourse amongst everyday persons.
How are our lives organised around work? How does it affect the way we behave, interact, feel and think?
