Island Dance 舞岛 is an ode to the ways nature, wildlife and the people of Pulau Ubin move and relate to one another. With Ubin as the site of encounters, elderly villagers and performers from mainland Singapore come together through play, dance and rhythm, in celebration of Ubin’s native flora and fauna, lived experiences of its villagers, and the interplay of its natural and urban elements.

Lively yet reflective, Island Dance 舞岛 invites audiences to engage with the island and one another, and to embody island time through collective movement in this site-specific, roving participatory performance.

After the performance, relax and enjoy the rare opportunity to experience Ubin at night. Bring your picnic mats for a kampung island dinner together under the stars. Select a meal from our curated menu featuring dishes prepared specially by Ubin villagers or bring your own food! For post dinner activities, we welcome you to take a slow stroll around the village and bask in the evening breeze. Board games will also be provided and bicycles will be available for rent if you’re up for night cycling.

Things to note:

  • This is an interactive, roving performance that invites all audiences to move and dance alongside the villagers and performers as they travel between locations. While active participation is highly encouraged for the fullest experience, audiences are also welcome to sit back and observe at any point.
  • Filming will be taking place during the programme for two short films as part of the project, and photography for documentation and publicity purposes. If you do not wish to be on camera, please inform our front-of-house staff.
  • This is a rain-or-shine event. In the event of severe weather, Drama Box reserves the right to cancel the programme. Ticket holders will be notified via email up to 1.5 hrs before meeting time should this occur.
  • Due to the time-sensitive nature of the performance, latecomers will not be admitted once the last boat from Changi Point Ferry Terminal has departed. Audiences are strongly advised to plan their journey in advance to arrive punctually. Boats will depart for every 12 pax gathered. Return trips back to Changi Point Ferry Terminal will only depart after the whole programme concludes at 8.45pm. The last ferry back to the mainland will depart at 9.30pm sharp.
