Haunted corridors and toilet cubicles... every school has its fair share of urban myths and ghost stories, passed down carefully over generations. Beyond the paranormal, what are some other visible and invisible ways in which fear is being manifested within the school compounds?

Assembly is an immersive theatrical experience that uses the premise of a haunted school to depict the struggles that students face. In a time when youths are learning to manage their emotions in an increasingly complex world, this performance creates a safe space through theatre and fiction for students to delve into the complexities and effects of issues such as bullying, and to collectively imagine solutions on how to create a healthier school environment.

Through various educational activities designed around the theatrical experience, students will be encouraged to:

  • Develop understanding and empathy towards people from different circumstances
  • Critically reflect on issues that may negatively impact interpersonal relationships and the social environment in school
  • Exercise responsibility and creativity to create a more positive school environment

Content warning: Assembly covers issues related to suicide and bullying that may cause discomfort to certain individuals.

Assembly is presented as part of Esplanade’s Feed Your Imagination (F.Y.I).
Additional shows for the public are available on 23 & 30 July 2022.
